Director, Higher Education Opportunity Programs (HEOP) Hamilton College
Description Hamilton College seeks a student-focused Director of Opportunity Programs. Hamilton was a founding member of HEOP, and its Opportunity Programs include theArthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program and the Hamilton College Scholars Program. Both are designed to increase access to higher education for students who demonstratethe ability to compete successfully in Hamilton's academically competitive environment, with additional support. The staff provides academic counseling and personal support and advocacy to students by aiding in their transition to college life, helping with curricular choices, providing financial assistance, and bringing opportunities to their attention.
The Director reports to the Dean of Engaged Education in Academic Affairs and works collaboratively with offices across the campus. The Director oversees, coordinates, evaluates, and administers the day-to-day operation of the program, supporting all areas to ensure that program goals and objectives are met, with a specific focus on developing counseling, academic support, and enrichment services designed to foster student growth and success. The Director must be equity-minded, empathetic, highly organized, collaborative, an excellent communicator, and deeply knowledgeable about higher education advising and academic support.
Preferred start date: January 2021
Recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising professional and academic support staff, and providing opportunities for staff development.
Developing, implementing, and evaluating the summer program; includes hiring faculty and ensuring that the core curriculum meets State requirements.
Preparing, initiating, revising, and overseeing procedures related to advocacy and academic and personal support to students, in accordance with program protocol outlined in State guidelines.
Actively participating in building adiverse, inclusive, and equitable campus community.
Preparing all program budgets for the State Education Department and Hamilton College; assisting the Business Office with vouchering; maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Preparing and submitting program proposals as outlined in funding contracts.
Identifying tools for measuring program effectiveness; conducting bi-annual student evaluation and annual program evaluations.
Maintaining program service data.
Attending appropriate and required State meetings and/or trainings.
Conducting student information and recruitment sessions; includes participating in the College's admission process, to ensure students receive the benefits under Section 5452 of the New York State Education Law.
Conducting appropriate lobbying efforts to support maximum program service.
Elevating program visibility within the college community.
Developing and maintaining effective on-campus and off-campus collaborations and partnerships that support student services; acting in an advisory capacity to college committees in both academic and student services, and providing information to the program advisory.
Maintaining current information on State and Federal education directives.
Master of Education or related degree, with 5-7 years of experience in an opportunity program, undergraduate advising or academic support office, or other program for underserved, low-income, and/or first-generation college students.
Direct experience with curriculum and policy development, data collection, program assessment, and documentation.
Hiring, training, and supervisory experience.
Experience with tracking and maintaining program budgets.
Grant writing, fundraising, and/or lobbying experience preferred.
Experience with student support software is a plus.
