The Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has an outstanding opportunity for a half-time (50% FTE) Research Study Coordinator 1 position. The study will design, conduct, and evaluate a study aimed at increasing and supporting the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention among HIV-negative cismen and trans* who use methamphetamine. The Research Study Coordinator 1 will support study operations and will provide support to participants.

Responsibilities
  • Attend and assist in conduct of formative work and focus groups to develop and refine study interventions.
  • Assist in developing and refining study materials, including recruitment and educational materials.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of research protocols, data collection methods protocols and strategies for data management.
  • Implement study interventions, potentially including:
        - Set up in-person meetings with study participants.
        - Provide education around PrEP and provide referrals to local resources for substance use, mental health, and housing, as desired by participants
        - Assist study participants with insurance and drug assistance paperwork.
        - Schedule and assist participants with study visits and pharmacy refills, potentially including attending clinical visits, assisting in transportation, or delivering medications.
        - Contact study participants via phone and text message to check-in and remind them of visits and procedures and support medication adherence.
        - Conduct the text messaging intervention.
        - Engage in participant retention activities.
  • Communicate with clinical sites, medical providers, pharmacies, research participants, and the study team regarding medical prescriptions, laboratory results, and study visits.
  • Maintain accurate and timely data entry of study visits and contacts in databases tracking details of subjects’ study participation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of study records.
  • Maintain professionalism and the highest standards of research ethics during all communications with participants.
  • Transport specimens as needed.
  • Collaborate with local research team members to meet study objectives.
  • Attend relevant staff and community meetings.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase or target study enrollment, as needed.
  • Assist in preparation of funder progress reports and IRB status reports

    REQUIREMENTS

  • Two years of college level coursework in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant OR equivalent education/experience.

    Additional Requirements:
  • Experience working or networking with substance users, particularly methamphetamine users.
  • Strong people skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility with work schedule for communications with study participants.
  • Well-organized.
  • Willingness and ability to follow research protocols.
  • Skill in communicating openly on sexual and substance use topics, including HIV/AIDS, addiction, and mental health concerns, without prejudice.

    DESIRED

  • Experience working within the Seattle LGBTQ community.
  • Experience conducting clinical studies with research participants
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite applications or other databases
  • Spanish language fluency
  • Lives in or willing to work in South King or Pierce County, WA
