The Department of Materials Science and Engineering has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 2. RESPONSIBILITIES: •Conduct research on composite processing and tools production for composite processing. Includes wet layup of glass fiber composite materials, autoclave operation, mixing of 2 part epoxy resins, vacuum integrity testing, adhesive bonding, mechanical testing of adhesive bonds. •Develop new processing methods and research new material combinations to meet project requirements. •Operate CNC machines, ply cutters, and other machine shop equipment. •Characterize new combinations of materials using advanced instruments such as FTIR, SEM, optical microscope and mechanical testing with Instron. REQUIREMENTS: •BS Materials Science & Engineering •Minimum 2 years’ experience with CFRP composite processing, vacuum bagging, composite autoclave operation, mechanical testing of composites and adhesive bonding of composites Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
