Dog Handler

Summary

The Dog Handler is responsible for providing staff support visits to employees across the Cook Children’s Medical Center, outlying clinics and administration buildings and will fulfill patient referrals for therapeutic visits on inpatient units. The Dog Handler handles one of the facility dogs and will coordinate with the Facility Dog Program coordinator to fulfill both inpatient referrals and staff support visits

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required
• Must be either a Certified Child Life Specialist or licensed Clinical Therapist
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with hospitalized children
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working with Animal-Assisted Therapy dogs 
• Must be an official dog handler; trained at Canine Assistants within 60 days of employment
• CPR – BLS is required within 60 days of employment
