Department Description The UCD Transplant Center is responsible for all aspects of care related to kidney transplantation. THIS IS NOT AN H1- B OPPORTUNITY Responsibilities This position supports the post-transplant patient care team by providing daily lab entry and scanning, appointment scheduling, daily phone coverage, establishing and monitoring standing lab orders, preparing prescription refill requests, prior authorizations and seeking financial prescription assistance for unfunded patients as needed. Required Qualifications
- Excellent computer skills. Must be skilled in a variety of computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, Lotus Notes, EMR
- Working knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology sufficient to communicate knowledgeably with patients and health care providers regarding appointments, services and procedures.
- Must have experience scheduling patient clinic and ancillary appointments.
- Knowledge of health care insurance systems, which may include Medi-Cal, Medicare, HMO, PPO, fee-for-service, county funded coverage, and workers' compensation, sufficient to properly obtain and track authorizations, appoint patients, make referrals for consults, diagnostics and ancillary services, coordinate hospital services, and explain provisions and requirements to patients.
- Written and verbal communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed or for whom English may be a second language. Must be able to write legibly in very small spaces.
- Skill and ability to type with speed and accuracy; ability to read, effectively compose, and edit documents with an excellent working knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure; use proper style and format with strict attention to detail.
- Organizational skills to establish priorities for own work within stated guidelines; respond flexibly to changes in priorities and maintain work effectiveness in a setting with a volume of patient activity and frequent interruptions.
- Ability to research, collect, organize, interpret, and input data.
- Experience abstracting laboratory results and other medical information from a medical record.
- Professional skills and physical capacity to maintain composure, efficiency and a positive, customer-service oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines.
- Problem-solving skills to independently define a problem; identify the resources available to help solve the problem, create viable solutions and take the action necessary to implement them; and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.
- Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality, HIPPA, is maintained and a professional, respectful work environment exists at all times.
- Ability to orally communicate via telephone and in person in an effective, courteous, cooperative, informative, and diplomatic manner with co-workers, clinical faculty, Medical Staff, Campus officials, referring physicians, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hospital or Clinic Experience
- UC Davis Health or Academic work experience
- Experience with follow-up appointment scheduling & radiology appointment scheduling
- Multi-line phone experience handling high volume calls
- Work experience with EPIC
