Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at Oregon State University enthusiastically invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Coordinator of Black/African American Student Mental Health & Wellness. The primary purpose of this position is to support the success of Black/African-American students (including Black students that identify within the African diaspora) at OSU through the provision of clinical services, consultation, outreach, programming, and advocacy. This individual will work collaboratively with community and university agencies that serve Black/African-American students.
The creation of this position is a part of CAPS’ ongoing commitment to centering the needs of marginalized students in our community. This work must be informed by a thorough and nuanced understanding of the unique lived experiences of Black/African-American students, particularly in white-dominated institutional spaces. Understanding the impact of racial stress, racial trauma, anti-Blackness, Black identity development, white supremacy culture, monoracism/multiraciality, and systemic racism will be critical to success in this position.
