ABOUT THE POSITION: The CSU System is seeking the newest member of the dynamic Spur campus team—the Spur General Manager. The GM will guide the opening of the CSU Spur campus facilities (opening in 2021/22) and manage ongoing campus operations. This position will include managing external partnerships and tenants within the buildings, working closely with IT and other departments, ensuring best-in-class management for sustainability principles including energy and water savings and occupant health, and managing budgets and contracts to keep the Spur facilities running smoothly. The Spur General Manager position is a unique opportunity to join a team at the beginning of a new campus’s operations, observe final construction phases, and develop short- and long-term facility management protocols with a diverse team of collaborators. The Spur campus has a one-of-a-kind collection of amenities that include multiple types of laboratories, classrooms, a teaching kitchen, a food lab, a greenhouse, student living spaces, a flexible theater and more. This position requires both creativity and attention to detail and is a chance to demonstrate expertise in both. ABOUT THE CSU SPUR CAMPUS AT THE NATIONAL WESTERN CENTER: The CSU System, along with its partners, will stand up three buildings focused on water, food and agriculture, animal health, and sustainability at Spur at the National Western Center (NWC). Within the Spur buildings, CSU will conduct research and convene experts from around the globe. Spur will facilitate students of all ages engaging with science and technology, and create opportunities for exploratory learning, transforming their thinking about food, water, and health and the careers available in these fields. Partners will participate in programming the space and bring evolving content to the year-round campus, including large events. All three facilities will be LEED Gold, and their operations should showcase the state-of-the-art in sustainability and healthy building operations. SPUR GENERAL MANAGER Responsibilities: • Collaborate with owner’s representative and construction contractor regarding final construction details to maximize the sustainability and efficiency of Spur facilities. • Make operational decisions at the Spur complex, balancing sustainability goals, building use, programming, and budget. • Lead on-site operations, including oversight of security, maintenance, parking, tenant relations, property management, event management, etc. and assumes primary responsibility for coordinating the activities of the buildings, restaurants, and retail and event operations. • With procurement staff, determine appropriate contractors and/or staff to support Spur campus operations. • Assist in setting long-term strategy and operating budget for managing and operating the Spur campus and its interface with partners. • Collaborate with the National Western Center Authority on any operational needs for the district energy system and any shared campus-wide services. • Collaborate with Director of Denver IT Operations to ensure all IT aspects of Spur are operating as expected and involving IT team as needed. • Oversee on-site Property and Project Management activities for leasable spaces and coordinate the common needs of the tenants and other third parties, as needed. • Oversee hiring, management, and evaluation of positions that report to GM. QUALIFICATIONS Selected required qualifications, see posting for full list: • Bachelor’s degree. • Minimum of 5 years of oversight and management responsibility for building and system maintenance and operations. • Demonstrated knowledge of building performance, sustainability, energy and water use reduction, and healthy building materials and operations. • Demonstrated experience managing multiple buildings (e.g., corporate, governmental, or educational campus) together. • Demonstrated budget and financial acumen, including operating budgets of over $1M and real estate leases. • Demonstrated strong administrative skills, including managing contractors, contract, and internal staff teams. • Strong interpersonal communication skills. Preferred qualifications: • Master’s degree in a related field. • Experience convening, managing, and participating in effective cross-disciplinary teams. • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced energy systems, central plants, boiler systems, water treatment, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, building controls, maintenance and the tools and material used in the preventive maintenance of the facility. • Personal or professional commitment to diversity and inclusion as demonstrated by persistent effort, active planning, allocation of resources and/or accountability for diversity outcomes.
