Clinical Exercise Physiologist

The Cardiopulmonary Clinical Specialist (CCS) reports to the THI Assistant Director - Cardiopulmonary Wellness and works as an integral part of the multidisciplinary cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation team.  The CCS provides outpatient care including comprehensive patient assessment, identifying barriers to learning, developing/implementing individual treatment plan, evaluating patient’s response to treatment, appropriateness of the plan of care and effectiveness of interventions and outcome.  Supervises telemetry–monitored exercise classes with multiple high-risk patients and develops appropriate and progressive exercise prescriptions including cardiovascular, stretching and resistance exercise.  Develops and facilitates professional, interactive, evidence-based group education presentations/material regarding risk factor modification, chronic disease management and secondary prevention.   Understands, models and effectively implements behavior modification techniques and coaching skills including goal setting, setting agreements, providing support, feedback and empowering patients to make conscious choices regarding their health.  Collaborates and communicates effectively with multidisciplinary team, physicians, patient and patient families for optimal patient and program outcomes.  Actively participates in team meetings to review patient’s progress, goals and plan. Provides updates/inservices to CPW team on exercise prescription/therapy.  Performs resting 12-lead EKG, spirometry and 6MWT. Participates in health screenings for the employers and the community.
