Makerspace Manager Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and the Arts POSITION SUMMARY The Makerspace Manager serves as a resource to students and faculty members by providing instructional, technical, and administrative services. The Manager works under the supervision of the Faculty Makerspace Director but exercises discretion and independent judgment in managing the day-to-day operations of the makerspace. The Manager ensures that supplies are stocked and all equipment is in good working order; oversees safety policies and practices in the makerspace (including serving on the college Safety Committee); develops and maintains diversity within the user community and among the stewards; manages the budget, including purchasing (clerical support available through the Dean of the Faculty’s Office); collaborates with the Machine Shop Manager to encourage student and faculty workflow between the shops and the makerspace; supervises student workers (“stewards”), including organizing regular staff meetings with the steward leadership team (“lead stewards”), hosting regular safety and training sessions with the stewards overall, and working with the stewards on programming and makerspace maintenance. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Education: High school diploma and extensive courses beyond high school equivalent to one or two years of college or technical training; or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities of the position. Bachelor’s or advanced degree preferred. Experience: At least five years of relevant experience (not necessarily in higher education); supervisory experience desirable. Licenses: Valid California Driver License and a driving record, as maintained by the DMV, that is acceptable to the College’s insurance carrier. Grooming and Appearance: The Claremont Colleges seek to maintain a professional image at all times. OTHER Hours: The regular hours of this position are 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, with a one-hour unpaid meal period daily. Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department, and specific times are negotiable.
