Elementary Campus Mathematics Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY

With the support of the Oakwood School administrative team, the math specialist enhances teaching, learning, and assessment to improve student math achievement. The role requires co-leading and teaching grades K-6 math in collaboration with the classroom teachers, advancing teachers’ understanding of math content, and providing coaching in the use of effective instructional and assessment practices. The math specialist will have deep knowledge and experience in the area of differentiation and will work with mathematicians 1:1 or in small groups.

Responsibilities

1. Planning, collaborating, co-teaching, debriefing with teachers with the goal of improving student learning and teacher understanding and delivery of effective mathematical practices.
2. Working with individual and small groups of students for both enrichment and remediation support
3. Conducting demonstration lessons to ensure that all teachers have been trained to an advanced level of delivery and are using the instructional materials as designed.
4. Facilitating teachers’ use of successful, research-based instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction for diverse learners.
5. Leading and facilitating professional development based on assessed needs aligned with school goals, policies, and programs.
6. Serving as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students.
7. Assisting administrative and instructional faculty in interpreting data and designing approaches to improve student achievement and instruction.
8. Collaborating with administrators to provide leadership and staff development for and develop a vision statement for the school
