This wonderfully unique position in the Mills College Children's School, the oldest laboratory school in the West. The Mills College Children's School follows a constructivist model of education for infant-toddler through fifth grade programs. Teaching Assistants work closely with Preschool Head Teachers, and teaching team, to plan and supervise an exemplary curriculum for designated grade levels, using a reflective/inquiry approach to analyze and improve instruction.
Summary of Position: Under the direction of the Head of School, perform a broad range of secretarial, administrative, functions for the Children's School. The Children's School Program Assistant will maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students, and student teachers enrolled in the Mills College Children's School, and other documentation required for licensing, accreditation and research purposes. The Children's School Program Assistant controls the release of sensitive information and exercises frequent independent judgment within the assigned areas of responsibility.
Essential Job Functions:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Serve as first point of contact for the Children's School. Provide a very high level of customer service. Answer telephones; relay messages; route calls and visitors. Provide information about the Children's School to parents of prospective students, staff, faculty, Mills students. Coordinate visits, tours, observation appointments. Handle in-coming and out-going mail.
Create and maintain a comprehensive database of Children's School students and their families.
Order and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong computer skills (preferably on both PC and Mac platforms).
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills.
Ability to multi-task and manage time and priorities to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
Good written and proof-reading skills.
Ability to gather, understand and use data to make data driven decisions.
Education and Training:
B.A. degree or Associate's degree with responsible administrative experience involving extensive public contact. Experience working with budgets. Knowledge of general accounting.
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands:
Resourcefulness in solving problems.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships within a diverse learning environment.
Requires fingerprinting/background check clearance and tuberculosis clearance.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position with an FTE of 0.75. Hourly rate is commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, 10 days of vacation, 12 sick days and 17 paid holidays (subject to annual review).
