Now Hiring Group Leaders and Assistants for Preschool and K-5th Grades for Global Kids Extended-day Program at The International School

The Global Kids Extended-day Program at The International School is hiring Group Leaders (lead teachers) and Assistant Group Leaders (Aides) to work with our Early Childhood (age 3 -4) and Elementary (K-5th grade) students daily after school. Group Leaders plan and lead their own enrichment activities after school, and lead their students through Group Circle, Snack, Recess, and Structured Enrichment Activities each afternoon. Group Leaders teach in English in the Global Kids Extended-day Program. The International School offers students full language immersion in Spanish, Mandarin, or Japanese during the school day through an International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. Group Leader: $16.00-$17.00/hour, Depending on experience
Assistant Group Leader (Aide): $15.00-$16/hour, Depending on experience
Schedule: Typical schedules are listed below. Actual schedule to be determined by Global Kids Manager and program needs.
Regular School Days:
3:00-5:45pm Monday, Thursday, Friday
2:00-5:45pm Tuesday and Wednesday
Alternative Days/No School Days:
7:30am-4:00pm - 6 days throughout year
Alternative Breaks/School Break Weeks: Pending sufficient enrollment
Thanksgiving- 2 days - 11/22 & 11/23/2021
December Break- Week 1- 4 days - 12/20- 12/23/2021
Spring Break- 5 days- 3/21- 3/25/2022
Location: South Waterfront area of downtown Portland near OHSU tram & streetcar. TIS is easily accessible by freeways, public transit, and bicycle. Walking distance from PSU and OHSU. TIS provides parking passes to staff.
Group Leaders and Assistant Group Leaders are part-time positions reporting to the Global Kids Program Manager. Group Leaders lead or assist a group of up to 15 K-5 students OR 20 early childhood (preschool) students in the Global Kids Extended-day Program at The International School. Group Leaders plan fun and engaging enrichment activities for their students and lead or assist in leading their assigned group throughout the program activities including picking them up from school, supervising outdoor play, serving snack, leading enrichment activities, and dismissing students. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to health screening, sanitizing, taking attendance, planning and implementing lessons, managing classroom behavior using positive strategies. All staff are expected to create a safe, welcoming, child-friendly environment; ensuring that children are supervised 100% of the time they are at Global Kids Program. Staff are also expected to communicate effectively and positively with students, families, supervisors, school staff, and other community members.

COVID-19: All staff are expected to follow the Operational Blueprint of The International School as well as the Oregon Early Learning Division guidelines & best practices for keeping children, staff, and families safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Oregon Office of Childcare: Global Kids Program is a state licensed child care center. The Global Kids Manager will guide staff in the steps necessary to comply with the state license, which can be completed at the time of hire.
At least one year of experience with children in the age range you will lead in a school, after school program, or similar group setting environment such as summer camp
Proficient in written and spoken English
Experience living abroad and/or working in a multilingual & multicultural environment
The International School provides a warm multicultural environment where children are fully immersed in Spanish, Japanese or Chinese language and culture. Children become fluent in another language, at home in other cultures, and engaged in math, science, social studies and arts.
The International School is Portland's first International Baccalaureate elementary school. It was founded in 1990 and today educates over 480 students from age 3 through 5th grade.
