Description: SCHOOL: Baylor's School of Education celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019 and has a well-established reputation for excellence in developing dynamic educators, leaders, and researchers. With more than 60 full-time faculty, the school's growing research portfolio complements its commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentoring. The school boasts an array of academic offerings housed in three academic departments: Educational Psychology, Curriculum and Instruction, and Educational Leadership. RESPONSIBILITIES: The School of Education's educator preparation programs prepare teachers, clinicians, and educational leaders by providing a depth of knowledge and applied experiences that align with certification requirements. This focus on quality preparation is part of Baylor University's mission to prepare leaders for service in a caring environment grounded in established school- and community-based partnerships. By modeling and incorporating a supporting environment that values all leaners, our graduates carry that value system into their districts, schools, and classrooms, thereby contributing to Illuminate (Baylor's strategic plan) in support of human flourishing and community improvement.
This position's primary responsibilities (approximately 60% effort) will include directing clinical experiences and school-based partnerships:
Communicate with Local Education Agency (LEA) partners and faculty regarding matters associated with all school-based clinical experiences.
Communicate with LEA partners and faculty regarding matters associated with (a) Professional Development School partnerships and (b) students involved in clinical experiences.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with schools that expand and enhance partnerships and other work that involves the School of Education.
Work with the associate dean and associate director of Certification and Program Accountability in the organization, management, and reporting of all data required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the U. S. Department of Education (USDOE).
Represent the School of Education by interfacing with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC), State Board of Education (SBOE), National Association of Professional Development Schools (NAPDS), and state and national professional organizations, such as Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Education (CSOTTE) and Texas NAPDS affiliate, as needed.
The position will also include teaching and/or supervision (approximately 40% effort) in one of the school's educator preparation programs (e.g., teacher, principal, superintendent) that aligns with the faculty member's expertise.
Qualifications: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Consistent with the stated mission of the University to be a world-class institution dedicated to Christian principles and ideals, the qualifications for the position include:
Doctoral degree in an education discipline (Ed.D. or Ph.D.).
Evidence of Christian faith that is foundational to teaching and leadership philosophy and practice.
Demonstrated success working within public and/or private schools.
Experience working with state educator certification requirements and supervision.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion among faculty, staff, and students, and a commitment to serving culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and local education agencies.
Evidence of significant educational leadership experience in PK-12 school systems as a teacher, principal, director, superintendent, university administrator, or combination of these experiences.
Expertise in related key academic area(s) that would enhance the School of Educations national reputation (e.g., curriculum and teaching, special education, educational leadership, school administration, school business management and finance).
Evidence of teaching excellence at the university level.
Demonstrated success in defining and evaluating challenges at all levels of the education system--schools, districts, universities and colleges, state and federal agencies.
Demonstrated success supervising educators (e.g., teachers, school-based clinicians, school leaders) and program development.
Knowledge of current state and federal leadership standards and certification requirements.
Understanding of public and private school challenges and opportunities.
SALARY AND BEGINNING DATE: The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and professional experience. The start date is negotiable (spanning January 1, 2023 through August 1, 2023) with a preference for January 1, 2023.
