Summary of Duties: The Assistant Director in the Business Services unit of the College of Nursing will be responsible for the management of day-to-day operations pertaining to finances, budgets, and allocation of resources driving program results. This position works closely with the Director of Administrative Services assisting as a principal consultant and adviser to the Dean and Associate Deans of the college on a range of fiscal management matters pertaining to financial operations, metrics, annual reporting, and operational budgeting and forecasting. Acts on behalf of the Director exercising independent judgement and discretion for work related to college policies, business operations, financial commitments, and leadership of other Business Services staff.
Essential Duties: Budget and Planning
Assist and advise the Director on administering and implementing the budgetary and financial policies of the College for all funding types within WSU.
Participate in the development and implementation of strategic and long-range plans, goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures. Continually monitor and evaluate for effectiveness, recommend changes for improvement. Execute changes when decisions are made.
Oversee the day-to-day business and fiscal services for the college including financial reporting, accounts receivable and payable, purchasing, payroll, travel, property inventory, grant and contract administration, minor capital projects, and external contracts.
Compile and analyze financial, business, and personnel information for all units within the college. Assist unit heads to evaluate unit budget and performance.
Oversee Business office staff, including the Grants and Contracts Analyst and Fiscal Technician. Responsible to recruit, hire, oversee training and assignment of duties. Evaluate performance and make recommendations for personnel actions.
University and Campus Relations
Serve as CON Financial liaison with Health Sciences campus, other campuses, and university central offices for matters affecting the College of Nursing. These contacts require discretion, and at times involve sensitive and confidential information.
Required Qualifications: Positions require a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least one (1) year of managerial experience. A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment. Positions may require applicable licensure and/or certification.
Experience performing the skills needed to execute the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Demonstrated experience overseeing budget and fiscal processes.
Working knowledge of general data systems and data validation and extraction procedures.
Experience with a complex enterprise system for personnel, payroll, and financial tracking. Please name system(s) used.
Demonstrated ability to provide effective customer service to people at all levels of the organization and effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Excellent organization, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication (verbal and written) skills.
Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
Systems thinking and the ability to focus on how an issue being reviewed interacts with the other components of our systems.

Master's degree in a relevant field.
Demonstrated knowledge of the policies and procedures of higher education business operations.
Budget and finance experience at a comprehensive research university.
Experience in strategic planning, formulation, design, implementation, and tracking.
Demonstrated experience providing financial reports for a complex organization to college leadership or external oversight agency.
Knowledge of Washington Administrative Codes and WSU Business Policies and Procedures.
Two (2) or more years supervisory experience which includes experience developing and maintaining a team and a team atmosphere, motivating and developing members to reach their potential, and providing direction and useful feedback.
