Under the general direction of the Assistant Director - Information Technology Systems, the Applications Developer will serve Undergraduate Admissions in four general areas:
1) Development and maintenance of Admissions' web-based applications
2) Configuring and supporting the department's website to enhance marketing efforts
3) Management of student information within a CRM (Slate) and other related applications (e.g. Zoom Webinar) and 4) act as the lead technical resource in the ongoing development of technology solutions to support department goals and objectives
The incumbent will apply their skills as a seasoned, experienced software and user experience design professional with a full understanding of industry practices, community standards and relevant policies and procedures to complete a wide range of assignments. Must demonstrate competency in applying methods and techniques to produce results. Projects typically are broad in scope and impact all components of a small to medium size website, system, project or department.
The incumbent develops and maintains programs in various computer languages (Java script, cold fusion, jQuery, etc.), designs solution-based databases, web interfaces and content or multimedia processes. Designs, develops, modifies, tests and evaluates and maintains computer programs. Work includes test-to-production processes, quality assurance, maintenance and documentation of applications.
The Applications Developer will maintain legacy and contemporary codebases and databases, troubleshooting bugs and adding new features, using Subversion for code version control. The incumbent must have the ability to scope work and manage their own development and meet project deliverables and deadlines, demonstrating excellent judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
The ideal candidate must be able to think critically and creatively about how systems and other core technologies can be used to increase efficiencies and provide a more holistic experience to students, parents and staff to achieve enrollment goals. Someone who is adaptable, growth minded, and able to work with a diverse team of individuals with varying technological knowledge. Candidates must be able to function independently, own their work, and see projects through to completion.

Provides detailed critical analysis of new technologies. Rationalize with core technologies and strategies. Develops and delivers complex integrated test plans. Develops conversion and system implementation plans. Regularly creates and executes unit tests. Monitors and employs source code control techniques and configuration management.
Gathers and analyzes data to prepare system and programming documentation. Recommends and implements changes in development, maintenance, and systems standards. and in the creation of software specifications. Leads and communicates progress on projects.
Work with Admissions management and staff to design, implement, and enhance tools to serve Admissions and campus/UC-systemwide goals. Performs complex data modeling, performance and integration testing and builds interfaces for a variety of internal and external constituents.
Configures and delivers from CRM aligning the development of templates, queries, and reports with the arc of the admissions recruitment cycle, storing multi-year records for prospective students and applicant records.Maintain users, security roles within CRM. Assures accuracy and timely delivery strictly within all applicable laws, UC policies (Addendum Data Security) and processes (procurement). Understands and applies industry practices, community and department policies and procedures to all work assignments.
Work closely with senior Admissions staff, updating the Admissions website. Serve as technical lead for new and software developments projects of moderate scope. Train users in conversion and implementation of systems. Designs moderately complex user interfaces and user interface components. May create simple to moderately complex prototypes. Incorporates web accessibility best practices into the user experience design process. Designs small to medium websites and / or architectures and contributes to moderately complex to complex designs.
Troubleshoot issues with staff, resolve issues and develop documentation for training/ development opportunities. Provides analysis for complex user research through user needs assessment and user observation activities. Applies user experience design concepts to conduct complex usability evaluations for small to medium projects and participates in these activities.
Plans, designs, develops, modifies, debugs and evaluates complex software for functional areas. Analyzes existing software or works to formulate logic for moderately complex new systems and devises algorithms. Performs data analysis and tests / debugs complex software. Designs and applies complex data sources. Applies effective programming security practices.
Performs other functions as needed. This includes deskside support and troubleshooting for staff in a variety of systems and processes.
Knowledge of secure software development and common programming tools.
Intermediate skills associated with the design, development, modification and deployment of software, including object-oriented programming concepts.
Knowledge of other IT and internal ITS related areas.
Demonstrated software repository skills and ability to follow software specifications.

Experience implementing and maintaining customer relationship management(CRM) tools.
Experience using web content management systems to create, publish, edit, and manage web content.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Demonstrated successful experience programming procedural and object-oriented languages, such as PHP, .NET, Java, ColdFusion, and SQL.
Knowledge of UC admissions practices, procedures, and operations.
Working knowledge of Oracle/PeopleSoft Campus Solutions system, as well as other student-based computing environments (AIS).
Extensive knowledge of Slate CRM.
