DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION The School of Education was established in 2002, building on an 85-year tradition at UC Davis of working to strengthen public education. The School offers preparation for the California teaching credential, master's and doctoral-level programs for educational researchers and practitioners, and professional development for educators throughout Northern California. The School has approximately 40 full time senate and clinical faculty and 80 staff. The School's total budget is over $30 million, and is comprised of state general funds, tuition and self-supporting revenue.
The School also supports a dynamic and diverse program of research. Faculty members and graduate students conduct research in numerous research areas as diverse as academic language and literacy, college access and persistence, citizen science, autism and education, and much more. In addition, the School has various research centers, including the Center for Community and Citizen Science, Transformative Justice in Education, Wheelhouse: The Center for Community College Leadership and Research, California Education Lab, Center for Applied Policy in Education, Sacramento Area Science Project and Resourcing Excellence in Education (REEd).

http://education.ucdavis.eduJOB SUMMARYUnder the direction of the Director of Student Support, Outreach, Recruitment and Student Experience, manage two complex and comprehensive graduate programs, the department-based MA in the School of Education, and the PhD Graduate Group in Education. Responsible for program management, including internal and external financial awards, administration of work study awards, program reviews, and academic advising. Design and deliver academic advising services and programs utilizing innovative uses of technology, including admissions and enrollment. Develop and coordinate educational enhancement services and programs, including tracking TA and GSR assignments, managing professional development seminar, mentored teaching opportunities, outreach and recruitment, and the certification of degree requirements. This position works under general programmatic supervision of the Graduate Group in Education (GGE) chair and the Teacher Education chair with a high degree of independence and autonomy on a day-to-day basis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Work on a computer for extended periods of time (6-8 hours/day).
WORK ENVIRONMENT - Work in a busy office with frequent interruptions, traffic and noise from computers, printers, ringing telephones and conversations.
- Work flexible schedule and occasional evenings and weekends to meet business needs.
- Restricted vacation during peak workload periods.
- Provide own transportation to off-site events and meetings.

QUALIFICATIONSRequired: - Student services and administrative experience in higher education setting.
- Experience interpreting and applying policies and practices related to administration of graduate academic student programs, admissions, student academic progress, financial aid, outreach and recruitment, and program requirements and procedures.
- Ability to effectively problem solve and develop solutions independently.
- Planning and organizational skills to administer and oversee complex projects independently and as a team leader.
- Knowledge and experience to make recommendations on exceptions to academic policy and enforcement of existing policy, and achieve divisional goals.
- Interpersonal skills and political acumen to communicate in an effective manner, and handle difficult, sensitive and/or confidential issues.
Preferred: - Experience using FileMaker Pro, Excel, Word, electronic communications and web editing, and knowledge of BANNER.
- Knowledge of the graduate student experience, administration in higher education and at UC Davis and knowledge of campus resources.
- Knowledge of the academic environment of a major research university and the demands on students and faculty; familiarity with the issues confronting students.
- Skills to analyze complex problems or issues relating to administrative matters, faculty governance, undergraduate education, or individual student circumstances occurring within a university context.
