Responsibilities
The Community Education Specialist 2 (50-75% time) acts as CEDD's Intake Coordinator for Family Support and serves as an educator for medical services including the Autism Friendly Hospital Initiative, COVID-19 vaccine clinic and transition clinic. The Specialist provides training and technical assistance for people with disabilities and their families through programs such as Family Navigator and the vaccine clinic, as well as training and technical assistance to healthcare and other professionals on how to provide person- and family-centered care for people with disabilities.

The Specialist facilitates community programs of diverse scope, including educational programs (in-person and/or on-line) and support groups, and programs which promote the support and advocacy of people with disabilities and their families, with special attention to the medical community and transition age youth. Supports the MIND Family Navigator program by conducting intake assessments and supporting families in the program. Supports the development of educational materials for medical providers as part of the Autism Friendly Hospital Initiative and support education for adult health care providers as individuals with disabilities transition from a pediatric setting to adult care.

The Specialist works with general instructions, works independently, and demonstrates good judgment in selecting content, methods and techniques when teaching, presenting, and providing technical assistance. Utilizes knowledge about evidence-based practices in prevention, assessment, treatment, and support services for people with developmental disabilities (DD); California DD service delivery systems (early intervention for ages 0-5, school-based, transition to adulthood, medical, education, mental health, etc.); community resources for support of people with DD and their families; independent living and community inclusion; personal and family resiliency, coping skills, and self- and family-advocacy; and culturally and linguistically appropriate service delivery.

Required Qualifications

• Experienced professional with in-depth knowledge of evidence-based practices in prevention, assessment, treatment, and support services for people with developmental disabilities (DD); California DD service delivery systems (such as early intervention for ages 0-5, school-based, transition to adulthood, medical, education, mental health); community resources for support of people with DD and their families; independent living and community inclusion; personal and family resiliency, coping skills, and self- and family-advocacy; and culturally appropriate service delivery
• Personal experience with disabilities (self or immediate family member preferred)
• Extensive years of experience in working with people with DD in the context of healthcare access
• Experience with but not limited to: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email application, internet, Zoom
• Experience working independently and as part of a team
• Cultural sensitivity to communities with disabilities
• Strong interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills, including presenting to large groups

Preferred Qualifications

• BA degree in Child Development, Psychology, Special Education, Nursing, Public Health or related field, or equivalent experience with support and advocacy programs and state agencies in California associated with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities advocacy and training issues, including parent support

Special Requirements
This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
