Working independently and collaboratively with others, this position plays an integral role in executing CPI’s mission, philosophy, and commitment to providing safe, reliable electricity to our members and exceptional service to our internal and external customers. All employees are also expected to maintain an elevated level of trust, integrity, and ethical standards.
Prepare and process payroll including all related reporting and payment responsibilities. Administer employee benefits plans and provide administrative assistance to CAO/Director of HR, CEO, Board of Directors, and management team.
Essential Functions of the Position:
The essential functions of this position require prioritizing and completing all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, adjusting for changing priorities and availability of resources, and demonstrating initiative in identifying additional job-related tasks to be completed when time permits.
Process payroll and pay employees. Distribute and pay, payroll deductions, tax liabilities and benefit plans either by check or ACH payments. Create and maintain spreadsheets for payroll reconciliation.
Process and maintain federal and state employer payroll and benefits related reporting requirements (e.g., quarterly taxes, NRECA reports, W-2’s, 1094/1095’s, etc.). Keep informed of new developments or plan changes related to payroll, benefits, leaves, and other employment law matters. Relay relevant and updated information to employees.
Assist CAO/Director of HR with annual insurance renewals; process plan changes and confirm enrollments including the 125 and HRA plans. Assist with HR functions such as processing new hire employees by entering information into computer for benefits and payroll, assist with new hire orientation, assist with applicant testing, process pay increases, prepare job postings, etc.
Process Worker’s Compensation claims (801’s), FMLA, OFLA, PLO, STD and LTD paperwork and track and maintain records related to claims. Serve as point of contact for Worker’s Compensation carrier and administrator. Provide payroll and other information that may be needed for claims processing.
Provide employees with benefit information and assist with questions, problems, or issues and intercede on their behalf with NRECA and Caremark. Assist CAO/Director of HR in responding to salary survey requests, compile reports and provide data needed for annual audits of payroll, benefits, and Worker’s Compensation.
Assist CEO and management team with administrative duties such aswriting correspondence, reconciling expenses, scheduling training, and making travel arrangements, etc. Track and maintain training database for CPI employees in Bamboo and their personnel files.

Position Requirements:
Qualified candidates for this position will have relevant education and experience necessary to perform the essential functions and meet the minimum performance expectations for this position.
Required Education and Experience
Associate’s degree in accounting, Business, or HR
3-5 years’ experience processing payroll and federal and state tax liabilities
Valid driver’s license. Other driving-related requirements may apply depending on the nature and scope of responsibilities associated with driving on behalf of CPI.
Preferred Education and Experience
PHR or SHRM-CP Certification

Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Thorough knowledge of payroll accounting, including the calculation of payroll taxes and benefits-related payments. Basic knowledge of payroll laws.
Ability to generate, update and maintain detailed accurate payroll and benefits-related information, reports, spreadsheet activities, and on-line reporting activities.
Excellent oral and written communication skills necessary to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external customers, vendors, contractors, and other diverse audiences while providing exceptional customer service.
Strong technical, troubleshooting, problem solving, research, organizational and analytical skills, combined with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet established deadlines. Ability to multitask is also essential while remaining flexible with changing priorities and deadlines.
Well-reasoned decision making with a high diligence regarding organization, planning, workflow, and project prioritization to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.

Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions, the importance of personal interactions with coworkers and members of the public, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent availability, accessibility, and presence onsite.
Approximately 40 hours/week will be required to efficiently perform the job duties of this position, including presence at designated internal and external meetings. This position may also require availability and accessibility to respond to and address emergencies and critical situations outside of normal business operating hours in the evenings and/or during weekends.

Use a personal computer or other technology devices frequently and consistently for the purpose of reviewing, analyzing, creating, transmitting, and presenting documents, data, and other business-related information.
Lift, transport and/or move up to approximately 30 lbs. each day in the performance of regular duties. Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and descending a stepladder may be required.
Drive on behalf of CPI and/or report for work in all types of weather.
Environmental Conditions
The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. This position primarily works in a temperature-controlled office environment. Our office spaces include traditional office lighting and office furniture, as well as consistent and frequent noise, interruptions, and other similar distractions.
