Job Summary
Provide high quality veterinary care for patients and clients within the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital as part of the Medical Oncology team. Responsible for overseeing the training of veterinary students, interns and residents.
This position ends 1 year from date of hire with the possibility of extension.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license, certification and/or educational degree if required of the position.
DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree from outside the USA
Must possess a California veterinary or university license within 3 months of date of hire.
Advanced knowledge in the area of Medical Oncology as demonstrated by completion of a residency training program in medical oncology and/or board certification in veterinary oncology.
Thorough knowledge of veterinary medicine as it applies to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
Skills to provide oversight of professional DVM students, resident, and animal health technicians in all aspects within the area of Medical Oncology.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced knowledge in medical oncology as demonstrated through board certification in medical oncology (ACVIM or ECVIM).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work collegially with other disciplines for the benefit of the patient.

Department Overview
At the Oncology Service at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, our cancer diagnostic and treatment services provide comprehensive care at one of the busiest veterinary cancer treatment centers in the world. The medical oncology service at UC Davis consists of 4 faculty, 6 residents, 4-5 full time technicians and one client coordinator. The service works closely with the radiation oncology service and has strong clinical and collaborative ties with the diagnostic imaging, dentistry and oral surgery, interventional radiology and soft-tissue/surgical oncology services. We work side by-side with our highly skilled technical staff to provide compassionate, empathetic care to our patients. Together, we share a passion in providing clinical instruction as well as hands-on training to residents and students. In addition, our state-of-the-art imaging services include CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine and PET scanning. Scientific research also contributes to our excellence in cancer treatment. Our oncology team performs basic science and clinical research that include clinical trials designed to benefit our patients by discovering new ways to treat and diagnose cancer. This position is part of a dedicated team who takes pride in the meaningful contributions made towards future veterinarians and veterinary specialists, and who want to make a difference in the world of veterinary medicine.

Contact with animals, including restraint of animals (sometimes fractious) as required.

Work Environment
Backup and on-call shifts for weekends and recognized UC holidays will be shared with Medical Oncology Faculty.
This position is subject to Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
Work under regular exposure to zoonotic diseases, anesthesia, cleaning chemicals and exposure to radioactive patients.
May require working with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught clients.
