This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Biological Sciences Research Technician 3 position for the Klamath Basin Research & Extension Center at Oregon State University (OSU). This position will be located in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
This position which works both as part of a tam as well as independently, exists to support the project PI with agronomic field-based research activities as well as data collection for various local, statewide and regional agronomic trials. This position provides technical support related to crop production practices for small grains, forages, oilseeds, alternative crops, row crops, and related issues relevant to agriculture in the Klamath Basin. This position also carries responsibility for equipment and performance of procedure in support of agronomic research while also providing shared general support for Agricultural Experiment Station portion of KBREC facilities and farming activities.
During the field season (April to December) the incumbent will primarily focus on work related to research activities. During off-season (January to March) incumbent will primarily work to service, maintain, repair and/or fabricate equipment and/or machinery in preparation for the field season.

A Bachelor's degree in (specific area of biological science) and two years of experience related to the area of assignment at a Biological Science Research Technician 2 level. Three additional years of experience related to the area of assignment at the Biological Science Research Technician 2 level may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree.
Requirements :
A Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, Plant Science, Horticulture or related field and two years of experience related to the area of assignment at a Biological Science Research Technician 2 level.
Three additional years of experience related to the area of assignment at the Biological Science Research Technician 2 level may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Possess or ability to obtain a Public Pesticide Applicator License with 'Demonstration and Research, Herbicide, and Insecticide/fungicide categories within 6 months of hire date and maintain while in position.
Ability to pass a respirator fitness test within 6 months of hire date and maintain while in the position.
Experience in commercial or research field crop management, experience in operating farm or research-scale field equipment
Experience with computer spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software programs
Evidence of strong written and verbal communications skills for communication with staff, visitors, and supervisors
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Commitment to working collaboratively in a diverse work environment.
Possess or ability to obtain an ATV certification within 30 days of hire and maintain while in the position.
Possess or ability to obtain forklift certification within 60 days of hire and maintain while in the position
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

This position involves both office and field work.
Work schedule can vary dramatically depending on seasonal needs. Work outside of an 8-5 workday is not uncommon. Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary due to crop care, planting, or harvest requirements as affected by changes in weather, equipment malfunctions, and related crop management factors.
Field work can involve hard physical activity involving lifting, carrying, pushing ad pulling objects weighing 60 lbs or more. Work outside has frequent exposure to dust, pollen, noise, extreme hot and cold temperatures, exposure to inclement weather, work while standing for extended periods, work while bending and stooping for extended periods, and walking on uneven ground with or without carrying heavy objects. Field work can involve exposure to and work with chemicals in a non-lab setting. Field work can involve working in or near water, including irrigation tasks or water sampling. Field work can involve exposure to high noise levels while working with equipment such as tractor, agricultural machinery, ATV, pneumatic, electric, and gas-powered hand tools, etc.
Hazardous conditions may occur due to proximity to equipment or chemicals while performing duties.
Operation of university vehicles such as tractors, agricultural machinery, and passenger vehicles will be required. Including driving to perform research at off-site locations
Operations of lift equipment such as forklift and pallet jack, as well as work performed from elevated surfaces, may be necessary.
