The Riverside Community College District (RCCD) Chancellor invites applications and nominations for the position of President of Moreno Valley College (MVC).
The Chancellor seeks a proven leader for this position with a solid commitment to the college mission, vision, and values. The new MVC President will be one of three college presidents reporting directly to the RCCD Chancellor who in turn reports to the District's Board of Trustees. The Board consists of five elected trustees who represent the residents living in the District's service area which includes the cities of Corona, Eastvale, Jurupa Valley, Moreno Valley, Norco, Perris, and Riverside.
EXPECTED QUALITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS
The following are non-exhaustive qualities and characteristics sought in the new President:
1. Advocacy & Leadership: The ideal candidate should be a strong advocate who effectively represents the institution at local, regional, and state levels. They must promote fair resource allocation and ensure necessary support for institutional growth and development. Experience in legislative advocacy and workforce development is essential, along with a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all students, including underserved populations.
2. Student-Centered & Community Focused: A deep commitment to student success and institutional growth is essential. The candidate should prioritize student representation, community involvement, and partnerships with industry leaders and civic organizations. They should foster collaboration that enhances the institution's impact both locally and beyond.
3. Knowledgeable of College Operations & Governance: A strong understanding of higher education operations, governance, and participatory decision-making is crucial. The candidate should possess knowledge of funding models, budget management, and shared governance principles. Experience in multi-campus systems is valuable, ensuring institutional autonomy while aligning with broader educational goals.
4. Communication & Transparency: The ideal candidate values open communication and transparency, building trust among faculty, staff, and students. They should maintain an active presence, engage with the campus community, and respect institutional history while making informed decisions that support long-term success.
5. Commitment to Professional Development & Equity: A commitment to professional development and equity is essential. The candidate should support faculty, classified professionals, and administrators by securing funding for training and development opportunities. They must champion equity initiatives, work to close opportunity gaps, and foster an inclusive environment where all individuals have the resources to thrive.
6. Innovative & Forward-Thinking: A strategic and innovative mindset is critical to balancing institutional needs with broader educational initiatives. The candidate should demonstrate adaptability in navigating political and financial challenges while promoting diverse hiring practices. They must prioritize access to essential programs, ensuring educational opportunities are available locally to meet community needs.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
1. An earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
2. Teaching experience in higher education.
3. Record of progressively responsible senior administrative positions in higher education.
4. Experience in managing the financial needs of a large multi-layered organization.
5. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, classified professionals, and administration.
PREFERRED:
Knowledge of the California Community Colleges system.
