PRIMARY FUNCTION
Under the direction of the high school principal, supervises coaches, athletic programs and facilities at the secondary school level, and serves as an manager assisting the principals with general managerial duties as assigned.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
School Leadership Duties
Serves as a member of the site administrative leadership team.
Assists in the selection, placement, supervision, and evaluation of classified personnel, including participation in interviews, professional development, and observations in accordance with District guidelines.
Participates in the development and implementation of school plans and organizational procedures related to health, safety, student activities, discipline, and conduct.
Maintains effective communication and positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the broader school community.
Supports school-community relations through engagement with parent advisory groups and community organizations.
Utilizes technology and relevant software programs to support site operations.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principals.
Athletic Program Leadership Duties
Oversees and administers the entire interscholastic athletic program in alignment with District policies and the rules and bylaws of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and North Coast Section (NCS).
Develops, approves, and publishes athletic schedules and ensures all required CIF documentation is completed accurately and submitted on time.
Establishes and enforces rules and procedures governing athletic activities, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
Provides overall supervision and management of athletic events, including home and away contests, and ensures appropriate administrative coverage when unavailable.
Coordinates all aspects of game management, including event setup, equipment, supervision, safety, security, medical coverage, and accommodations for teams and spectators.
Represents the school at league, conference, District, and state meetings related to athletics.
Promotes sportsmanship and positive relationships with visiting teams and guests.
Evaluates athletic programs and implements improvements as needed.
Serves as the primary point of contact for resolving conflicts involving coaches, student-athletes, spectators, and visiting teams.
Athletic Program - Coaches
Provides leadership, guidance, and supervision to all coaches to ensure adherence to ethical standards and alignment with the school’s mission and vision.
Assists in the recruitment, selection, assignment, and evaluation of coaches and volunteers.
Trains, mentors, and supports coaches, including orientation to policies, procedures, and the coach’s handbook.
Monitors coach performance and provides ongoing feedback to ensure expectations are met.
Ensures all coaching staff meet District, State, and CIF requirements prior to participation.
Enforces compliance with District and CIF policies, including taking appropriate action when expectations are not met.
Athletic Program - Students
Establishes the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport per CIF guidelines and appropriate Board Policies and verifies the athlete’s eligibility.
Facilitates the opportunity of annual physical examinations for athletes prior to the beginning of each new school year.
Directs in-school, extracurricular programs designed to foster support for the athletic teams and school spirit among non-participants.
Ensures all athletes have completed and signed the athletic code of conduct.
Ensures that all athletes are properly covered by medical insurance.
Ensures student incident/accident reports are submitted.
Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
Athletic Program - Operations and Scheduling
Coordinates game officials, trainers, medical personnel, and event staff to ensure safe and successful athletic contests.
Develops and manages practice and competition schedules in alignment with facility availability and community use.
Arranges transportation for athletic participants.
Athletic Program - Budget and Finance
Collaborates with the Principals or designee to develop and manage the athletic program budget.
Oversees ticket sales, fundraising activities, and financial transactions, ensuring proper accounting and compliance with District guidelines.
Establishes priorities for equipment acquisition and replacement.
Facilities - Building and Grounds
Assists the Principals in supervising classified staff related to facility operations.
Coordinates maintenance and repair needs with appropriate personnel.
Supports campus safety efforts for students and staff.
Monitors the use of facilities by outside users.
Monitors and coordinates district van usage.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education
A bachelor's degree from an approved institution is required; Administrative Services Credential preferred
Experience
Successful experience as a coach (preferred)
Successful experience in public or private schools is required, and preference will be given for additional secondary teaching experience, administrative, or supervisory experience at the secondary school level
