Position Description
This position will lead and coordinate a comprehensive, mission-aligned system of support that ensures each highly gifted student thrives intellectually, socially, and emotionally. This role reflects Mirman’s deep commitment to cultivating the boundless potential of highly gifted children by recognizing and responding to the full complexity of gifted development, including asynchronous growth, intensities, and neurodiversity. Highly gifted learners often demonstrate exceptional cognitive ability, alongside areas of challenge in executive functioning, processing, attention, learning, or social-emotional regulation. The Director brings expertise in gifted education, neurodiversity, and twice exceptionality to ensure that students’ strengths are honored while their needs are thoughtfully supported. Serving as both a strategic leader and hands-on practitioner, the Director will develop systems, guide faculty, partner with families, and provide direct support to students. Working closely with faculty, the Student Support Team, and the Educational Administrative Team, including the School Counselor and Division Heads, the Director helps create a school culture where intellectual risk-taking, self-understanding, resilience, and belonging are essential elements of each student’s experience.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
Strategic Leadership and Mission Alignment
- Develop and lead a cohesive vision for educational support that reflects Mirman’s mission and its deep understanding of neurodivergent learners, including both giftedness and neurodiversities.
- Lead the Student Support Team to ensure that students can fully access Mirman’s advanced academic program.
- Ensure support structures recognize and respond to the asynchronous development common among gifted learners, integrating both strengths-based and responsive approaches.
- Collaborate with school leadership and educational support specialists to align student support practices with Mirman’s educational philosophy and commitment to cultivating intellectual curiosity, resilience, empathy, and self-advocacy.
- Stay current with emerging research in gifted education, neurodiversity, twice exceptionality, executive functioning, and child development.
- Establish systems to monitor the effectiveness of interventions and continuously strengthen Mirman’s student support model. Review school data and work with the administrative team to assess and support students.
Student Support and Case Management
- Lead/coordinate academic and behavioral support for students with identified or emerging needs.
- Provide direct student support, including academic support, executive functioning coaching, and short-term intervention.
- Oversee the development and implementation of Student Support Plans and individualized learning profiles. Facilitate Student Support Team meetings and case conferences.
- Review and interpret psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations.
- Support student transitions across grades and divisions, ensuring continuity and responsiveness to evolving developmental needs.
- Conduct classroom observations of students and help students develop self-awareness, self-advocacy, and strategies that empower lifelong learning and well-being.
Faculty Partnership and Professional Leadership
- Partner closely with faculty to design classroom strategies that support highly gifted and twice-exceptional learners. Provide consultation and coaching on differentiation, executive functioning support, behavior regulation, and inclusive instructional practices.
- Support faculty in fostering classroom environments where students feel both intellectually challenged and emotionally supported.
Family Partnership and Community Engagement
- Serve as a trusted partner and resource for families, fostering collaborative relationships grounded in shared understanding of each student. Help families understand gifted development, twice exceptionality, and strategies to support their child’s growth.
- Coordinate communication and collaboration with external specialists, including psychologists, therapists, and educational consultants.
- Contribute to parent education/community learning about gifted development and student well-being.
Program Coordination and Documentation
- Maintain clear, confidential, and comprehensive documentation of student support plans and interventions. Coordinate and monitor support services and referrals. Help ensure continuity of support across grade levels and divisions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Dispositions

Qualifications
- BA degree in psychology, school psychology, counseling, special education, or related field; MA degree, license in psychology, school psychology, counseling, special education preferred
- Minimum of 4 years of experience supporting students in a K–8 educational setting
- Demonstrated experience supporting gifted and/or twice-exceptional learners; prior experience in independent school settings preferred
- Ability to balance multiple priorities in a complex, fast-paced environment
- Successful teaching experience in advanced elementary to secondary school
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Flexibility and creativity to work in a dynamic environment exhibiting the qualities of an adult learner dedicated to their craft
- Culturally competent and engaged community learner; growth mindset and detail oriented
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to Mirman’s vision, mission and guiding principles
- Exhibit high standards of ethics, moral character, professionalism, and the ability to present oneself as a positive role model for students
- First Aid and CPR training required (training provided if not currently certified)
- Valid CA driver license and clear criminal background investigation
