REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Student Financial Services
SCHEDULE: Office hours are primarily weekdays, but responsibilities require additional hours and flexibility that can include evenings and weekends. Occasional travel outside of Longview may be required for conferences or presentations at trainings.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Financial Aid manages departmental operations and the professional delivery of services to financial aid customers and the public. The Director plans, organizes, and implements work projects for the financial aid staff and oversees the day-to-day functions of the department. The Director organizes, supervises, performs, and reviews work activities to ensure compliance with quality standards and deadlines which includes analyzing situations and accurately adopting an effective course of action exercising discretionary powers on a daily basis. The Director identifies opportunities for continuously improving service. The Director is responsible and accountable for maintaining confidentiality in financial and academic records according to the guidelines of FERPA and the University.
The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for interviewing, selecting and training of the staff (Assistant Directors, Financial Aid Counselors, and clerical positions) in the Office of Financial Aid and for appraising their productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in their status. The Director is also responsible for supervising this staff in a manner that encourages high morale and efficiency.
The Director of Financial Aid will also conduct financial aid presentations for the University, campus and outside community organizations. Responsibilities also include the coordination of monthly reconciliations of federal, state, and institutional financial aid accounts and verifying disbursements to students on loans and grants and accessing computerized databases for information in cooperation with the Director of Student Accounts and the Controller of the University.
The Director must also maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, policies, procedures and automated business systems that guide or support the area of Financial Aid. Responsibilities also include developing operational policies and procedures that enhance the operations of the financial aid office, ensure compliance with all federal and state laws and provide transparent application of policies and procedures across all constituencies. The Director if responsible for completion of and submission of Federal, State and Institutional reporting required by the Financial Aid Office. Close working relationships with offices across campus are crucial in meeting these reporting requirements and in ensuring access to all necessary data is available.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree as well as a minimum of five years of financial aid administrative experience at the mid-management level at a four-year institution. All candidates must be able to work independently and communicate effectively. Individuals who have worked with financial aid packaging and modeling tools are encouraged to apply. The candidate must also demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality of academic and financial information according to the guidelines set forth by the federal government and the University.
Requires the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in order to meet schedules and deadlines. Requires the ability to analyze situations and accurately adopt an effective course of action. This position requires the ability to communicate with diverse populations of students, staff, and the public using tact and courtesy in sometimes confrontational or difficult situations as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
