Job Summary
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for managing the human and financial resources of the West Valley Symphony (WVS) to achieve the organization’s mission. The ED is a visionary leader who, under the direction of the Board of Trustees (BOT) and in collaboration with the Music Director, will provide leadership, direction, and management to grow the WVS artistically and financially. A primary duty of the ED is to meet revenue and expense goals as set forth in the annual budget. The WVS was founded in 1968 and will soon begin our 59th season. Our musicians are paid professionals, and offices are in Surprise, AZ, which is about 25 miles west of Phoenix.
Location:
The ED must be located within a reasonable commuting distance of the City of Surprise, AZ; a strong relationship with the surrounding West Valley communities is needed, and the ED must be connected with the communities and leaders within the areas we seek to serve including the areas west of I-17.
Principal Duties:
Responsible for meeting revenue and expense goals as set forth in the budget
Oversee and manage daily operations to ensure efficiency and adherence to policies and standards
Collaborate with the Music Director on recommendations to the BOT for policies and plans for season schedules, guest artists, venue locations, and rehearsal space
Develop and implement plans to achieve organizational goals, including the Annual Operating Plan, Marketing Plan, and Development/Fundraising Plan
Drive development initiatives to identify new opportunities for growth and partnership in the surrounding communities and businesses, enhancing the financial stability of the WVS
Ensure that accurate financial records are maintained
In consultation with the Treasurer, prepare updated projections based on actual income and expense activity
Is the primary business interface with independent contractors, such as: Music Director, Librarian, Personnel Manager
Desired Qualifications
College Degree (A.A., B.A., +)
Experience with a track record of effective leadership in non-profit arts organizations
Proficiency with the MS 365 office suite of programs
Demonstrated ability for successful collaboration with colleagues
Strong strategic planning abilities with a focus on long-term growth and sustainability
Business development expertise to identify new markets and revenue streams
Project management skills for overseeing multiple initiatives simultaneously
Ability to lead change management processes and implement process improvements
