Founded in 2003, the Boise Baroque Orchestra (BBO) was established to bring the finest baroque and early classical music to the Treasure Valley. Currently the BBO performs at 440Hz with Baroque Bows. Since its inception, the orchestra has been guided by three music directors: Richard Roller (2003–2004), Daniel Stern (2004–2019), and Robert Franz (2019–2025).
BBO has maintained a loyal and dedicated core of musicians, including five founding members who continue to perform with the orchestra: Dawn Douthit, Susan Courtial, Jonelle Darrow, Janelle Oberbillig, and Lorie Scherer. The orchestra’s development and growth have been driven by the strong collaboration among its musicians, music directors, and Board of Directors.
In response to changing audiences and an evolving arts landscape, BBO has remained committed to serving the community through innovative and thoughtful programming. During the early months of the pandemic, the orchestra launched a digital concert series, later transitioning to outdoor performances. The outdoor concerts quickly gained popularity and have since grown into a four-weekend summer festival, now serving as BBO’s main concert series.
Education and co
...mmunity outreach play a fundamental role for the BBO. The Boise Baroque Summer Institute has continued to grow and develop over the last several years. This four-day program hosted 30 high school students in 2025, with more expected in the coming year. Collaboration with local performing arts organizations has added additional opportunities both for workshops and master classes.
With the support of a faithful and loyal patron base, the Boise Baroque Orchestra provides world-class professional performances and looks forward to sharing exceptional music with the community for generations to come.
