This position works under the direct supervision of the Manager of Fleet Services who reviews work through daily observation of assigned tasks, records, and customer/vendor feedback. This position provides reliable and continuous service by maintaining and repairing VEA fleet vehicles and equipment safely and timely.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or an equivalent of education, training, and experience to satisfy this position's requirements. Complete a two-year basic automotive training program from an accredited college or trade school, or six years of experience in automotive truck repair, heavy duty truck, aerial lift, cranes, and body systems repair (in a paid employee status) or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge: Must have a thorough knowledge of equipment and tools used by the Mechanical trade and electric utilities. Working knowledge of service requirements and general techniques of heavy-duty vehicle repair.
Language Skills: Must read and comprehend complex instructions, technical drawings, specifications, and related information. Ability to communicate effectively with consumers and employees.
Mathematical Skills: Must be able to perform business math, such as percentages and fractions, to analyze plans and diagrams using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability: Must be able to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have the ability to deal with problems involving several tangible variables in standardized situations
Other Skills and Abilities: Must be flexible, organized, decisive, and able to carry out problem-solving in standardized situations. Must be able to use Microsoft Windows and navigate in a web browser. Must deal with co-workers and customers in a courteous and professional manner. Must have an adequate range of tools for successful completion of duties assigned. Must obtain and maintain a current commercial driver’s license (CDL) per Nevada State Department of Transportation Regulations and carry a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate within the first 12 months of hiring. Must have successfully completed the Fleet Technician Advancement Program (FTAP), or equivalent training. Gain and enhance technical skills through classes and training courses. Advance and maintain existing ASE certifications and technical training while pursuing a Master ASE certification status.
