Bachelor's degree in a related field. Doctorate in Education, Education Psychology, Quantitative Psychology, Social Sciences or a closely related field preferred. Five years of experience in medical education, health professions education, or higher education or in a related field. Experience in assessing learners and evaluating educational programs preferred. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Serves the SHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine by planning, organizing, and directing the assessment, evaluation, and accreditation program across the continuum. Collaborates with the Sr. Associate Dean for Educational Affairs and works with a variety of stakeholders including administrators, staff, basic science faculty, clinical faculty, students, regulatory agencies, and members of the community to assess medical education programs.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Plans, implements, improves, and expands the assessment and evaluation program. Collects, analyzes, and reports data to accreditation bodies and monitors compliance. Creates and oversees the development of reports and leads assessment meetings. Conducts, evaluates, and reports on multiple facets of course, student, and faculty evaluations generating annual reports, along with program evaluations for clinical and preclinical programs. Communicates with faculty, staff, and students to evaluate needs and provide appropriate information to enhance teaching, learning and assessment in the future, including but not limited to, individual consultations. Assists in the gathering, analysis, interpretation, evaluation, and reporting of quantitative and qualitative data relevant to curriculum, instruction, and student performance. Oversees the maintenance of program records and data bases. Provides orientation on the assessment and evaluation system(s) as needed. Trains course directors and other leaders on how to access and review course data and plan for improvement. Assists with peer evaluation of faculty teaching in classroom and in clinical settings, and provides effective feedback. Examines the quality of assessments that are formative and summative, course based, longitudinal and standardized patient based. Analyzes learner assessment methods and provides feedback to stakeholders. Assists with the development and implementation of assessments for curricular innovations. Participates in the development of competency-based assessments. Records, stores, manages, and disseminates confidential and sensitive assessment data as appropriate. Participates in teaching as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
