Job Description:
What We're Looking For:
Understanding of landscaping and horticultural practices
Ability to inspect outdoor areas for safety and report hazards
Skilled in using landscaping tools and gas-powered equipment
Reliable and proactive in maintaining clean, safe, and attractive grounds
Experience with seasonal tasks like mulching, planting, and re-sodding
Confidence operating trucks, trailers, and electric carts safely
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Commitment to providing excellent service to staff and the public
What You'll Be Doing:
Perform a range of manual groundskeeping tasks across assigned areas
Operate lawnmowers, blowers, edgers, and other landscaping equipment
Mow, edge, aerate, seed, and fertilize lawns and green spaces
Prune shrubs, weed flower beds, trim trees, mulch, and prepare soil for planting
Clean and maintain paths, walkways, and stairways
Identify and address basic safety issues in outdoor areas
Assist in the repair of irrigation systems
Maintain accurate records of work using digital tools
Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of landscape experience required
Experience or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance
Valid California driver's license
Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, staff agree to live in agreement with PLNU's Community Life Covenant. The job offer is contingent on the successful completion of a background check. Physical Requirements:
Must not have allergies that interfere with working outdoors (such as fertilizers, pesticides, plant life, pollens, etc.).
On a continuous basis walk, stand, bend, crouch or stoop, sit in jolting cab for varying periods of time; use hands and fingers to grasp tools; make repetitive hand and body motions; twist and reach below and above shoulder, climb ladders up to 10', ride in a lift and perform physical activities on a continual basis; communicate in person, use a two-way radio, and use the telephone; lift or carry 50 pounds or less.
See in the normal vision range with or without correction; hear in the normal range with or without correction.
Work is performed outdoors, with exposure to a variety of weather conditions, traffic, noise, physical barriers, and heavy equipment; work may also involve exposure to fumes and odors from fertilizers, pesticides, or other chemicals used in landscape work.
