Position Overview
The Associate Athletic Director 6–8 supports the Middle School Athletic Director in managing and enhancing the middle school’s athletic programs while serving as a visible, approachable, and positive presence on campus. This role is ideal for an energetic, outgoing, and student-centered educator who enjoys building relationships and fostering school spirit.
This position collaborates closely with coaches, student-athletes, faculty, and families to promote a positive, inclusive, and competitive athletic culture. In addition to administrative responsibilities, the Associate Athletic Director 6–8 may teach middle school classes and is expected to engage meaningfully with students both in and out of the classroom. This position reports directly to the Middle School Athletic Director.
Responsibilities
Athletic Administration & Operations
Serve as a welcoming, responsive point of contact for parents, students, and community members.
Collaborate with the athletic department to plan, organize, and oversee all middle school athletic programs, events, and activities.
Support the development and continuous improvement of athletic programs, including evaluating coaching effectiveness, team culture, and program outcomes.
Assist with scheduling and coordination of all middle school practices and competitions, including participation in league meetings and collaboration with opposing schools.
Attend weekly transportation meetings to align on logistics, routing, and scheduling needs.
Manage team operations by maintaining accurate rosters, weekly calendars, contest confirmations, and attendance records.
Coordinate athletic practice and gameday venue setup and breakdown in partnership with the operations team.
Assist with event management for major school and athletic events, including homecoming, open house, forums, and parent meetings.
Compose and distribute clear, timely communications regarding schedules, events, expectations, and program updates.
Promote middle school athletics through school communications, newsletters, social media, and website updates; ensure digital scoreboards and athletic platforms are current and accurate.
Maintain a visible, approachable, and supportive presence during the school day and at athletic events.
Support the hiring process in partnership with AD/HR, onboarding, mentoring, and ensuring certification, compliance, and professional standards are met.
Provide student-athlete support by addressing conduct, eligibility, attendance, and sportsmanship concerns in collaboration with school leadership.
Serve as a liaison for parent communication, addressing questions, concerns, and expectations in alignment with school policies.
Step in as needed to coach, supervise students, or support transportation and supervision needs.
Manage athletic equipment and uniform inventory, including distribution, collection, maintenance, and upgrades; enforce uniform and spirit pack policies.
Organize and maintain athletic storage areas and oversee postseason equipment collection.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Teaching & Student Engagement
Teach middle school classes as assigned, supporting the school’s educational mission.
Model professionalism, enthusiasm, and a growth mindset for students.
Build strong, positive relationships with middle school students, demonstrating an understanding of and appreciation for the middle school developmental stage.
Teaching responsibilities will be coordinated with the Academic Administration and the appropriate Instructional Leader.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in athletic administration, education, sports management, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of one year of experience in athletic administration, coaching, or a related field; middle school experience strongly preferred.
Teaching experience or willingness to teach middle school classes.
Outgoing, personable, and approachable; enjoys working with students, families, and colleagues.
Demonstrated “can-do” and solution-oriented attitude when faced with challenges.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Familiarity with the “language of sport” required.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding academic, health, and family information.
Proven reliability, punctuality, and flexibility.
Ability to pivot, adapt, and remain positive in a dynamic school setting.
Strong affinity for middle school students and their unique developmental needs.
Ability to follow detailed instructions and complete tasks accurately and efficiently.
Standard On-Campus Hours: Start: M - F by 9 AM End: M -Th 5 PM, F 4:00 PM Hours may vary based on athletic seasons and events; occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends are required. *All schedules are subject to change.
