The Head Rodeo Coach provides leadership, coaching, and administrative oversight for the College’s intercollegiate rodeo program, supporting student-athlete success, regulatory compliance, and competitive performance. This position is responsible for recruiting and developing student-athletes, organizing practices and competitions, managing program operations, and ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) requirements. The Head Rodeo Coach collaborates with the Athletic Director and others across the College to promote student-athlete academic achievement, retention, and personal development while fostering a culture of sportsmanship, safety, and institutional pride.
Essential Functions Rodeo Program Leadership •Provides leadership and direction for the intercollegiate rodeo program. •Promotes a culture emphasizing academic achievement, sportsmanship, and student development. •Supports recruitment and retention of student-athletes aligned with institutional enrollment priorities. •Encourages competitive success while maintaining a strong commitment to student-athlete well-being and safety. •Provides coaching and technical instruction in rodeo events including roughstock and timed events. •Coordinates practice schedules, training activities, and competition preparation. •Supervises the assistant coach and student workers associated with the program.
Athletic Operations and Compliance •Ensures compliance with institutional, NIRA, and regional rodeo association rules and regulations. •Monitors student-athlete eligibility and participation requirements. •Coordinates rodeo entries, schedules, and travel logistics. •Oversees team travel arrangements including transportation, lodging, and meals. •Maintains program records including eligibility documentation and competition results. •Ensures proper inventory, maintenance, and use of rodeo equipment and college-owned assets. •Promotes safe practices related to rodeo training and competition.
Personnel and Program Administration •Assists the Athletic Director with program planning and evaluation. •Manages program budgets, purchasing, and scholarship allocations within established guidelines. •Assists with fundraising initiatives to support the rodeo program. •Coordinates use of practice facilities and arenas. •Develops operational procedures that support effective rodeo program management. •Assists with hosting collegiate rodeos or related events as assigned.
Student-Athlete Support and Success •Promotes academic success, persistence, and completion of student-athletes. •Monitors academic progress, attendance, and performance. •Collaborates with others across the College to promote student success. •Supports leadership development and character development opportunities. •Encourages positive representation of the College through sportsmanship and conduct. •Promotes student-athlete health, safety, and wellness.
Community Relations and Program Development •Promotes the rodeo program through community engagement and outreach. •Develops relationships with high schools, rodeo associations, and recruitment networks. •Represents the College at rodeo events and related functions. •Supports fundraising and sponsorship development. •Encourages participation in community service activities.
Additional Responsibilities ?Serves on institutional committees as assigned. ?Maintains professional knowledge of rodeo coaching techniques and association regulations. ?Adheres to institutional, conference, and association policies. ?Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, sports management, education, or related field.
Experience in athletic coaching or related student-athlete development and recruitment roles.
Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics operations and compliance requirements.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
