Assistant Project Scientist Position in the Department of Psychiatry & Biobehavioral Sciences
An Assistant Project Scientist is sought to conduct qualitative and quantitative research examining factors associated with and potential interventions for enhancing community integration among homeless experienced individuals. The successful candidate will be responsible, in conjunction with the PI and collaborators, for taking projects from conception through execution to publication, and will be expected to supervise students and junior staff throughout this process.
Specifically, the appointee will be responsible for:
Designing and contributing to the development and execution of research, including the following: (i) using quantitative methods to analyze health and program data to identify individual, programatic, and community level factors associated with community integration among formerly homeless individuals; (ii) using qualitative methodologies to examine how various factors influence community integration outcomes, and to identify potential programmatic changes to improve outcomes; and (iii) examine differences among racial/ethnic subpopulations and how programs and policies may be tailored to increase cultural relevance.
Supervising and training graduate and undergraduate students in appropriate research techniques.
Maintaining accurate records of procedures and data collected.
Running appropriate statistical analysis of mutiple forms of data collected.
Working independently to develop new projects related to homelessness including, but not limited to, research on community integration, racial/ethnic disparities in homelessness, and engaged patient/community research. This will include designing research analysis, collecting pilot data, and identifying funding mechanisms.
Attending research group meetings and preparing manuscripts, grant applications and reports. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to write and publish research findings, attend scientific meetings, and to grow professionally.
A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in public health, urban planning, social welfare, or a related social science field is required. Prior experience with mixed methods research is required. A background in homelessness research is necessary and first or senior authorship on publications is highly desirable. The successful candidate should be fully competent in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, statistical software and ATLAS.ti.
The candidate must demonstrate an interest to learn new techniques and concepts, be well organized, detail oriented and self-motivated. The ability to work both independently and with individuals of various educational and disciplinary backgrounds is essential.
Salary will be consistent with the UCLA Project Scientist Series. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 37-B. The salary range for this position is $76,700 - $97,700 annually.
