The medical-surgical unit is a 36-bed unit that provides exceptional care for patients with chest tubes, tracheostomies, laryngectomies, and post-op care for various conditions, infections, COPD, pneumonia, and other respiratory disorders. We also care for general medical-surgical patients. The mix of patients on this floor makes it a great starting point for nurses in our Residency Program and for nurses who wish to become Certified in medical-surgical nursing and work at the top of their license with this population of rewarding and challenging patients. We are a state-of-the-art hospital with a brand-new unit. We value the voice of our team and encourage participation and unit-based council in Shared Governance. We look forward to welcoming you to the 5NT team, where you can practice your passion and establish excellent foundational skills together with the opportunity to specialize in medical-surgical nursing. 

Summary:

Provides basic patient care under the direction of nursing staff and ensures patient safety and well-being.

Responsibilities:

• Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Answering patient calls and helping patients with eating, bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility.
• Feeding patients, measuring and recording their food and liquid intake.
• Monitoring and documenting patients' temperature, blood pressure, and other vital signs and reporting changes to nurses or doctors.
• Assisting nurses or doctors with medical procedures and dressing wounds.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

• Experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• BLS required.
