CalPERS Retirement Benefits—The City provides coverage for all “Classic” Members at 3% @ 50 Formula for Safety members. Sworn classic and legacy employees contribute a total of 12% of pensionable compensation (an additional 3%) on a tax deferred basis for the City’s CalPERS Contributions for the 3% at 50 safety plan. Sworn PEPRA employees as defined by CalPERS, shall receive the CalPERS 2.7% at 57 safety retirement benefit formula. PEPRA employees contribute 50% of the normal cost for such retirement benefits on a pre-tax basis as determined by CalPERS.

Candidates should possess a minimum of 8 years of experience in police work that includes at least two years of experience conducting supervisor level responsibilities at a law enforcement organization:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required, preferably with a major in police science, public administration, or sociology.
Possession of a Basic and Intermediate POST Certificates.
Possession of a POST Supervisory Certificate within one year of appointment.
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of hire and of continued employment.
Ability to pass a thorough background investigation, including: polygraph test, psychological evaluation, physical evaluation, and drug screening, prior to appointment.
Completion of advanced police supervisory or management coursework such as the POST Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI), is desirable.
Broad and extensive experience, training, and education in all major phases of municipal police work are also desired.
The City of Antioch is a full-service municipal agency serving a population of more than 114,000 residents. The Police Department is authorized a sworn staff of 115 officers and 35 non-sworn employees, which includes Dispatchers, Community Services Officers and Administrative Support staff. The department is comprised of 3 divisions. (1) Field Services Division (Patrol, Traffic, SWAT, K9 and Community Services Officers), (2) Support Services Division (Investigations, Crime Analysis, CSI, Property/Evidence, Records, Dispatch and Animal Services), (3) Compliance and Professional Standards Division (Internal Affairs, Training, Community Engagement, Community Liaison Officer and Statistical Policy Analyst).
Our Police Department is located in downtown Antioch, near the Marina, in a 67,000 square foot facility. It features an indoor firing range, weight training/exercise room, and community meeting room that also serves as the city’s primary Emergency Operations Center when necessary. Officers may work in a variety of assignments including Patrol, Traffic, Community Engagement Unit, Investigations, SWAT, Hostage Negotiation, Field Training, and K-9. Assignments for our non-sworn staff... varies as well, with assignments in Administration, Secured Records, Crime Analysis, Dispatch and Investigations. Community Services Officers can also be assigned to Evidence, Custody, Training, CSI, and the Front Counter. Most of Antioch’s training is conducted in-house. Officers with special expertise may apply for and become instructors. These officers provide training in the areas of first aid, defensive tactics, firearms, emergency vehicle operation, tactical communications, cultural awareness and much more.
