The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University expects to appoint a Shelly Visiting Associate Professor for the 2026-2027 academic year. This position, created through a gift of Eugene P. Shelly, is intended for experienced mathematics faculty members on leave or sabbatical from institutions that focus primarily on teaching. The idea is to give Carnegie Mellon faculty and graduate students an opportunity to improve their teaching skills through interaction with the candidate, while simultaneously providing the candidate with an enriched research experience.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences is committed to including a broad range of intellectual and cultural perspectives. We welcome faculty applicants who can offer such contributions through their research, teaching and service.
Successful applicants will be expected to provide evidence of a strong teaching record. Appointment at the level of Visiting Professor may also be considered.
Applicants should submit all materials electronically through MathJobs and Interfolio. This includes a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications, a statement describing teaching accomplishments, and up to three (3) letters of recommendation to be solicited via MathJobs.
Review of applications will begin on December 15, 2025 and continue until the position is filled.
