ABOUT UCR UNIVERSITY EXTENSION University Extension is the continuing and professional education division of the University of California, Riverside, offering programs and certifications to domestic and international students.
POSITION OVERVIEW Position Title: Artificial Intelligence Instructor Salary Range: $100 per Instructional Hour Anticipated Start: Winter 2026
POSITION DESCRIPTION UCR Extension is currently in search of artificial intelligence practitioners to deliver university-developed curriculum in AI on a part-time basis. Extension offers a Professional Certificate in Applied Artificial Intelligence and a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Artificial Intelligence. Our courses focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning. Concepts covered include data preparation techniques, including data collection, cleaning, and feature engineering. Learners have an opportunity to apply AI concepts to train, validate, and fine-tune AI models, including large language models. The applied capstone course provides hands-on experience in deploying and monitoring AI models in real-world applications.
Our audience includes both adult learners (domestic and international) as well as traditional college-aged students from abroad who enroll in our visiting-student program. There are opportunities to teach our courses in both online and classroom settings. UCR is on the quarter system, and courses are generally 10-12 weeks in length. We also have opportunities to teach in our short-term courses.
Courses include: * Artificial Intelligence: Principles and Techniques * Data and Data Preparation for AI * AI Practicum (project-based) * Artificial Intelligence and Innovation (short course)
RESPONSIBILITIES * Provide instruction in accordance with the established instructional agreement, curriculum outlines, and class schedule provided by University Extension. * Communicate teaching objectives and specific learning outcomes to students and clearly outline the grading policies of the course. * Work in conjunction with collaborative partners and subject matter experts to ensure that course information is current. * Participate in scheduled orientations, meetings, and mandatory training programs by UCR's established deadlines. * Maintain timely and accurate academic records within the learning management system and submit timely and accurate documentation as outlined in the Instructional Agreement. * Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct. * Become familiar with and follow UCR Extension's Instructor Manual and Curricular Guidelines. * Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner. * Stay current regarding the professional body of knowledge in the field of practice. * Complete required administrative tasks in a timely manner, including completing all hiring paperwork; submitting updated syllabi; signing instructor contracts; submitting required textbook orders; and communicating AV and classroom needs. * Employ culturally competent teaching methodologies in order to engage our international audiences * Design interactive and motivational classroom activities to fully engage participants and to reinforce student learning. * Update materials periodically, and regularly monitor course evaluations in order to make adjustments and improvements to the curriculum.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS * Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution. * Extensive background and current work experience in the area of Artificial Intelligence * Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. * Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate that they are legally authorized to work in the United States.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS * Must be committed to the highest level of academic standards and integrity. * Current participation in professional associations. * Strong oral and written communication skills to support effective interaction with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and education partners. * Computer skills sufficient to support preparation of class materials and exams, as well as enable effective communication with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the education partners.
PREFERRERD QUALIFICATIONS * Experience teaching adult learners. * Experience with curriculum development and course design.
OPTIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Course development in Artificial Intelligence related areas.
