Reporting to the Dean of Students and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services will provide strategic leadership, vision, and clinical oversight for all services supporting campus mental health and psycho-educational programming for a population of 1,600 MSMU students enrolled in traditional undergraduate programs, accelerated Bachelor of Science Nursing (ABSN) program, and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. The Director will supervise a team of highly collaborative team, including Associate Director/Training Director, Assistant Director of Outreach Programming, Staff Therapist, Staff Psychologist, advanced practicum trainees, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and an office manager who support a full-time mental health clinic at each of MSMU's two Los Angeles campuses. The Director will maintain visibility, engagement and collaboration within the Dean of Students portfolio, the Division of Student Affairs and throughout the MSMU campus.
Work Location: Both, Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles) and Chalon Campus (West Los Angeles). Hybrid work schedule available.
Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides overall administration, clinical oversight and strategic direction for Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS), including oversight of departmental budget, clinical training program, and campus programming and outreach efforts
Provides leadership, training, supervision and evaluation to all departmental staff including an Associate Director/Training Director, Assistant Director of Outreach Programming, Staff Therapist, Psychologist and Office Manager
Engages in on-going quality assurance and assessment of campus student counseling needs to maintain and enhance the department's service delivery and efficacy
Serves as primary after-hours on-call crisis contact, conducting crisis assessments and providing consultation to on-call staff, as needed
Serves on campus-wide committees including, but not limited to Student Care, Coordinated Community Response Team (CCRT) and Student Wellbeing Policy and Protocol Committee to facilitate the evaluation, creation, and implementation of student policies and procedures related to student health and wellbeing, and in accordance with industry best-practices
Provides regular reporting for Dean of Students and AVPSA and Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) on service usage and trends
As needed, provides consultation to faculty and staff related to student mental health concerns and possible intervention strategies
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Leads weekly staff meetings, including weekly case review
Maintains client caseload, as needed
Collaborates with CPS team members to create individual professional development plans and regular in-service trainings for CPS staff members and other key stakeholders
Cultivates collaborative working relationships within department, division, university and surrounding community
Serves as part of the Student Affairs Leadership Team, conduct outreach needs-assessment and regular reporting for Dean of Students and AVPSA and Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA)
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Job Requirements: Knowledge:
Expert knowledge in a community mental health approach and integrated health and wellbeing models to address the needs of MSMU's student population and innovate service delivery
Fundamental knowledge of liberal arts college environment for both residential and commuter students. Knowledge of Catholic higher education, preferred.
Comprehensive knowledge of data-collection methods, needs assessment tools and metrics to evaluate service effectiveness and improve service quality
Expert knowledge of virtual platforms to provide tele-therapy, outreach and training, required
Expert knowledge of common group therapy models and workshop facilitation related to topics of interest to MSMU's unique student population
Expert knowledge of alternative service delivery modules for psychotherapy and psycho-education in higher education
Expert Knowledge of clinical supervision for advanced practicum trainees in accordance with current California State Board of Psychology requirements, standards, and best-practices
Abilities and Skills:
Ability to apply expert knowledge of various psychological treatment theories and psycho educational approaches to train staff and support client population
Ability to manage fluctuating priorities and respond to requests for information in a timely manner
Ability to work as a collaborative leader within the CPS department, Dean of Students portfolio, Division of Student Affairs and university community
Ability to demonstrate comprehensive proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, One Drive, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
Ability to demonstrate comprehensive ability to use electronic health records systems, such as Medicat, for client notes and scheduling
Demonstrated expertise with crisis intervention and client population with diverse presenting problems including, but not limited to mild to significant history of trauma
Demonstrated experience with clinical mental health models, accreditation standards, policies, procedures and best practices related to the field of psychology
Education:
Doctoral degree (Ph.D./Psy.D.) in clinical or counseling psychology, or related field
License eligible in the state of California, and in good standing
Experience:
Minimum two (2) years of experience successfully leading a university counseling center or mental health organization in a similar setting of comparable scale and complexity; including experience supervising a team of licensed and unlicensed clinician
Licenses and Certifications:
Doctoral degree (Ph.D./Psy.D.) in clinical or counseling psychology, or related field
License eligible in the state of California, and in good standing
