Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) & eligibility period (1 to 5 years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Duties
The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (PCNP) Residency Program Director (RPD) practices in the Primary Care Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality - timeliness - and advancing the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission
The PCNP RPD practices to the full extent of their education - training - and certification
The PCNP RPD is responsible for the management - structure - and administration of the Primary Care NP post-graduate clinical trainee program
The incumbent develops - implements - and enhances NP clinical education training programs and ensures program compliance with the VA Office of Academic Affiliation (OAA) standards and accrediting bodies of sponsoring affiliated institutions while activities are being held at VA facilities
Required experience may include one or more of the following educational assignments: precepting APNs or medical students - setting up continuing education for local VA APNs - serving as an APN Assistant or Coordinator in a Veterans Health Administration (VHA) residency program or stipend program - and/or serving as a member or staff of an academic APN program
The NP will serve in both roles as PCNP RPD and primary care provider managing a panel of patients
The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients

The NP has prescriptive authority for a panel of patients or program as indicated by their position
Major duties and responsibilities of the position: Manages clinical and administrative aspects of the Primary Care NP clinical residency program
Supervises Primary Care Nurse Practitioner post-graduate residents in multiple clinical settings
Ensures program compliance with the VA OAA standards and accrediting bodies of sponsoring affiliated institutions and facilitates mandatory reports for OAA funded programs
Collaborates with organizational leaders and interdisciplinary clinicians in carrying out the functions and activities of the residency program
Oversees didactic instruction and mentorship of resident Quality Improvement projects
Ensures the residency program aligns with the organizational mission of the facility - Veterans Integrated Systems Network (VISN) and VA
Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all levels of medical center personnel and relates effectively with customers - families - and the community
Contributes ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care - policies - and objectives for the enhancement of clinical practice as related to aspects of the NP residency program
Leads and collaborates in policy-making activities as related to customer service and the administrative and clinical aspects of the NP residency program
Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice
Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management
Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team
Orders and interprets labs - tests - and diagnostic studies
Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
And initiates referrals and consults to specialty services
Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes
