Job Summary Commodity Director plans, organizes, and coordinates commodity sourcing for Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH). This includes sourcing products, service and equipment for the BSWH health care system. Develops a commodity strategy approach that meets service and quality standards. Manages total costs and aligns with BSWH business goals. Evaluates supply availability and market conditions to maintain inventory levels, assess price volatility, and control costs. Researches, evaluates, and recommends vendors and suppliers. Directs and manages ongoing relationships with suppliers. Collaborates with leadership in supply chain management, procurement, logistics, HTM operations, finance, and other departments. Drives improvement in procurement processes within the area of responsibility and across the BSWH system. Implements system-wide directives that recommend vendors, set price controls, and prioritize cost-reduction goals by commodity category. Ensures compliance with all safety, legal, and regulatory requirements impacting BSWH procurement programs, processes, and operations. A Commodity Director translates and implements strategic plans and goals for their area. They make final judgments on operational matters and ensure goals are achieved. They recommend policies and organizational changes for their area. They plan and execute projects and initiatives that meet annual goals. Erroneous judgments at this level can negatively impact the area's success, the business unit, and possibly the entire organization.
Essential Functions of the Role ? Directs commodities sourcing function for assigned area of responsibility for BSWH. ? Recommends and implements strategic and operational plans and priorities for commodities aligned to BSWH overall business goals. ? Directs sourcing strategies and approaches for high volume commodity purchases by the organization. ? Selects and prioritizes products and projects and manages the request for purchase (RFP) processes. ? Manages the negotiations, agrees, and documents the terms, and finalizes the contract completion. ? Monitors contract compliance and works with providers on resolution of non-compliance issues. ? Develops and implements commodities policies, procedures, and processes for the assigned area. Manages the purchasing process for assigned commodities. Develops an implementation plan for the new process and supports Implementation Managers in ensuring execution. ? Provides ongoing communication to supply chain senior leadership and stakeholders on commodities products, projects, activities, and status. ? Selects and manages vendor management for commodities and partners with strategic sourcing to manage vendor performance and services provided. ? Leads insourced versus outsourced sourcing decision making and collaborates with insourced owners to ensure appropriate "make vs. buy" selection.
Key Success Factors ? Bachelor?s degree or equivalent in business, healthcare administration, or relevant field. ? 5+ years of experience commodity sourcing, procurement, supply chain, or related area. ? 1+ years of experience in a leadership role. ? Knowledge of healthcare commodities and materials management principles and practices. ? Critical skills with expertise in purchasing, supplier collaboration, and negotiation. ? Ability to manage supplier relationships, vendor programs, and internal customer expectations. ? Exceptional relationship building, interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills. ? Exceptional understanding of supply chain management and execution, including Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), distribution, and local contracting.
