Position description Faculty Positions in the Division of Rheumatology, Autoimmunity, & Inflammation: The Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego is committed to academic excellence within the faculty, staff, and student body and is actively recruiting faculty to join the Division.
Selected candidates will be responsible for participating in scholarly activity and teaching medical and graduate students. Selected candidates will also be responsible for providing service to the University and academic community at a level commensurate with their career stage and contributing to the maintenance of a collegial and collaborative academic environment.
Clinician candidates (MD or equivalent) are expected to maintain professional competence by attending weekly outpatient adult clinics and participating in inpatient and outpatient consult services.
Non-clinician candidates are expected to maintain external funding and a high level of productivity in publishing peer-reviewed literature.
The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's background and experience.
Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.
As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities, and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Additional information can be found here: Health Sciences Compensation Plan (APM-671) Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Candidates must have an MD or equivalent degree, or a PhD in a health-related field.
Candidates with an MD or equivalent degree who will have clinical duties must be board eligible or board certified in Rheumatology and must have, or be eligible for, a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.
