Position description The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences within the School of Medicine at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence among its faculty, staff, and student body. The Department is seeking to expand its Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (URPS) Division through the recruitment of an OBGYN-URPS physician with a focus on supporting the division's clinical and teaching missions and engaging in opportunities to develop leadership within these programs.
The current division members include nationally recognized leaders in the subspecialty who are dedicated to training the next generation of leaders in URPS. The division engages in basic science and translational research (including pelvic floor physiology, mechanisms of birth injury, the urogenital microbiome and metabolomics, and regenerative medicine) and clinical research, with long-standing membership in sponsored networks (e.g., the Pelvic Floor Disorders Network (PFDN) and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)). Division members collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment with URPS board-certified/board-eligible urologists who share in the clinical, educational, and research missions, providing outpatient services at four locations in and around San Diego County (La Jolla, Hillcrest, Encinitas, and Rancho Bernardo) and surgical care at Jacobs Medical Center and the Koman Outpatient Pavilion in La Jolla, McGrath Outpatient Pavilion in Hillcrest, and East Campus Medical Center in the College area of San Diego. The division also plans to expand URPS services to satellite clinics in outlying San Diego County regions, including Palomar Hospital in North County and East Campus Medical Center.
The selected candidate will serve as Co-Clinical Medical Director of our multidisciplinary outpatient Women's Pelvic Medicine Center, partnering in the strategic and clinical direction of the program. The selected candidate will also serve as Associate Program Director of the jointly administered UC San Diego and Kaiser Permanente URPS Fellowship Program, with the expectation of ultimately assuming the role of Fellowship Program Director. The selected candidate will devote approximately 60-80% effort to clinical URPS practice. Additional responsibilities include teaching medical students, training residents and fellows, mentoring resident and fellow research projects, supporting the development of junior faculty, and participating in administrative activities of the division, department, and University.
Candidates with interests in collaborating with a multidisciplinary, multispecialty team of gynecology and urology-trained URPS specialists; developing and refining leadership skills within a program led by nationally and internationally recognized faculty and clinical leaders; engaging in innovative approaches to URPS clinical care and the training of future specialists; expanding clinical services to neighboring communities; and contributing to the education of medical students, OBGYN and urology residents, and URPS fellows are encouraged to apply.
The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's background and experience.
As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities, and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Additional information can be found here: Health Sciences Compensation Plan (APM-671) Qualifications
