Crane Country Day School is a co-educational Kindergarten-8th grade independent day school located on a beautiful 12-acre campus in Montecito, CA. Crane is dedicated to providing an experiential education characterized by a thoughtful balance of academic challenge and creative expression. We thrive as a community that builds character and confidence while celebrating the joy of learning. At Crane, we understand that how we teach is just as important as what we teach. It is a welcoming and supportive place to work—a rich environment where you will find enthusiastic cooperation, healthy relationships with colleagues, and active professional development.
Job Description
Crane Country Day School seeks a full-time Elementary School Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The successful candidate will be an energetic and outgoing individual with a proven ability to collaborate and partner with other members of the Crane Staffulty (our hybrid word for staff and faculty). We are seeking an individual with strong experience teaching reading, writing, math, and social-emotional learning in the elementary grades. A demonstrated ability to work with and engage a diverse range of learners and families is essential to success in this position.
We are working hard to strengthen diversity at Crane School, so the ideal candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through their own learning, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing our own bias. We cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects individual strengths, views, and experiences. We believe that our differences enable us to be a better school – a place that makes smarter decisions, drives innovation, and delivers a more powerful education for our students.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and design curriculum and teaching strategies that align with Crane’s mission and philosophy of providing an experiential education that meets the needs of all students.
Manage and supervise a dynamic classroom environment where all students are seen and valued.
Communicate and partner with parents to enhance the growth and development of students.
Apply anti-racist, liberatory practices and principles in all aspects of the role from classroom management to curriculum development.
Demonstrate and support a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
Collaborate with other Staffulty members to support student growth.
Monitor and report on student growth and progress.
Continually seek educational opportunities to develop professional knowledge and skills.
Attend all required staff meetings and special events.
Supervise students during assigned duties and community activities.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School and/or Head of School.
Requirements and Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject matter required. An advanced degree or teaching credential/certificate preferred.
A minimum of three years or more of teaching experience at the elementary level (upper elementary strongly preferred)
A candidate with fluency in a language other than English, preferably Spanish is desirable but not required.
Physical and Other Requirements
Prolonged periods of standing and walking in the classroom and throughout campus.
Occasionally lift 15-45 pounds.
Regularly sit and stand on the floor throughout the day, and bend, kneel, or squat to be at eye level with children.
Work in person on-site.
Background investigation required via Live Scan.
TB assessment required for employment in CA schools.
Work Environment
Crane Country Day School is an equal-opportunity employer. We strongly encourage applications from people of color, LGBTQ+ educators, and educators from historically underrepresented communities in independent schools. Crane is committed to sustaining a diverse and inclusive community where each member is respected and valued.
Crane is an independent K-8 day school located in Santa Barbara, California. Crane provides an innovative and rigorous curriculum in a student-centered, experiential, and creative environment. In keeping with its mission, “We thrive as a community that builds character and confidence, while celebrating the joy in learning,” the school’s programs support a student’s social and emotional growth as well as their academic progress. The school was founded in 1928 and our current community has approximately 275 students supported by 60 Staffulty members (Crane’s word to reflect the combined and cohesive team of teacher and administrators) on our 12-acre campus.
