Position Summary

Provide leadership, guidance, and expertise to the accounting department (AR, AP, GL, Payroll) and technical teams located at the Portland headquarters office.  The Accounting Manager is responsible for organizing, maintaining, and directing all general accounting activities and functions within the established accounting policies of the organization, including recording, and maintaining the company’s financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and managing the preparation of various managerial reports.  

Essential Functions

1. Manage the monthly close, including consolidation of global entities. Implement adequate processes to improve the reporting cycles to ensure timely and accurate reporting in compliance with relevant accounting standards (GAAP and/or IFRS).
2. Provide accurate financial statement reporting to management in a structured manner to facilitate informed decisions, qualitative analysis, and appropriate actions in a timely manner.
3. Reviews general ledger account data and analysis to ensure that the Company’s financial records are complete and accurate.
4. Collaborate with FP&A on reporting efforts and monthly accruals related to budgeting and forecasting.
5. Expert understanding of internal controls related to accounting and reporting. Responsible for ensuring adequate internal controls within accounting and collaborates with other teams to ensure adequate controls exist for processes that impact accounting.
6. Developing and implementing key accounting policies and establishing procedures regarding financial transactions and financial reporting.
7. Analyzes processes, procedures, and workflows; initiates, develops, and implements process improvements.
8. Lead and mentor the Portland based accounting staff by utilizing the performance management process, including confirming job responsibilities, establishing goals and job competencies, developing skills, coaching on a continuous basis, and evaluating performance.
9. Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results.
10. Responsible for tax compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate, and other applicable taxes; including sales/use tax, B&O, property tax.
11. Lead treasury functions including forecasting of cash flow position. Maintain commercial banking relationships and facilitate an appropriate credit resource. 
12. Coordinate and assist in annual financial audits and federal income tax filings, providing supporting documentation and requests.
13. Identifies and executes accounting-related projects that support company and department strategic initiatives.
14. Provides leadership, guidance and expertise to cross-divisional business and technical teams regarding accounting issues, including their related systems and processes.

Education and Experience

1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
2. Accounting designation (CPA, CMA preferred) or an equivalent combination of related experience and education.
3. Minimum of 5+ years of progressively complex technical accounting/finance experience required.
4. 2+ years of supervision of staff in a mid-size corporate environment demonstrating strong leadership skills.
5. Thorough knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
6. Experience in a manufacturing and consumer products environment preferred.
7. Must have excellent Excel skills.
